Resistant to tuberculosis infection because of genetic profile

“The study, published in theJournal of Experimental Medicine, followed people who live in high-exposure areas without becoming infected. Researchers concluded these individuals are naturally resistant to TB infection because of their genetic profile. The discovery of this genetic resistance factor is a major step forward in the fight against TB.”

“The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that approximately one-third of the world’s population is a carrier of the latent form of tuberculosis (TB). Although these individuals show no symptoms and are not contagious, they can develop the active form of tuberculosis at any time. As a hidden reservoir of the disease, they represent the main obstacle to its eradication.”
